May 22, 2007

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE USE

Cole Bay , St. Maarten: The Evangelical Association of the Caribbean has taken a huge step forward in developing a Caribbean Youth Network. Youth leaders representing EAC member-bodies from around the region gathered in Cole Bay , St. Maarten to discuss the need, seek the guidance of God together, and plan the next steps. Throughout the meeting May 17-18, 2007 there was a sense of synergy, God’s presence and His timing.

Participants discovered that Christian Youth Festivals are already planned for , Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, and Tobago in July and August 2007. Commitments were made to support each others’ festivals this year and develop a means of coordination and synergy from 2008 onwards. EAC is developing a web page on its website that will carry all the information for these festivals in 2007 and serve as a joint promotion.

By the conclusion of the meeting it was agreed to proceed with the development of the Caribbean Youth Network (EAC-CYNET) around the Purpose Statement “Empowering the youth to transform society.” A facilitating committee has been appointed for the next 18 months to map the way forward. The committee will meet in in August and in in November. Members of the committee are: Nigel Browne (St. Kitts Evangelical Association), Ambrose Carter (Barbados Evangelical Association), Nicole Francis (Victorious Living Foundation, St. Maarten), Capt. Jonathon Kellman (Salvation Army), Anderson Queto (St. Lucia Fellowship of Gospel Preaching Churches), Donovan Thomas (Caribbean Youth For Christ), Eworth Williams (Guyana Evangelical Fellowship). Rev. Gerry Seale, EAC’s General Secretary and CEO, will provide staff services to the committee for the time being.

Rev. Seale expressed deep appreciation to the World Evangelical Alliance’s Youth Commission (WEA-YC) for the assistance rendered financially and technically in making the St. Maarten meeting possible. Dr. Donovan Thomas was also thanked for representing the Caribbean to WEA-YC during the past seven years in the absence of a Caribbean Youth Network.
