PRAYER AND REFLECTION

Welcome! We hope you will enjoy using these reflections with us!

REFLECTION

How do we do advocacy that is both fully Christian and yet effective in changing policy in a secular context?

Reflecting on 2 Kings 18-19, Bryant Myers finds that two conversations are going on - the conversation of worldly power and the language of faith.

\'Christians know something that the world does not know: There is a God. God is just and we are not. Therefore, there will be a judgment. Only through Jesus Christ can the outcome of our judgment be set aside. If we simply repackage Christian positions on public policy and leave it at that, we withhold this vital knowledge from the world, thus leaving the world at risk. The world’s policy-makers need to know that good policy is rewarded and bad policy is not. They need to know that the God of history cares deeply about justice and hates injustice.\'.

PRAYER

Let us pray:

* That as we speak out for justice we will speak boldy to wordly powers without compromising Christian truth and witness.

* For the role of women in the world today as highlighted on International Women\'s Day (March 8).

* Give thanks for Micah Challenge , which has been part of the planning for activities around the International Women\'s Day and is taking a stand for gender rights and equality on behalf of the church.

MEDITATE ON THE STATISTICS

As you spend time in prayer and reflection, you may like to take a moment to
silently understand with your heart the focus statistic we include each week (see below). Our hope is that you will find this series of statistics a useful resource in preparing presentations.

Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women

Indicator 11:
Share of women in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector

\'Women not only earn less than men but also tend to own fewer assets. Smaller salaries and less control over household income constrain their ability to accumulate capital.\'
