March 9, 2007

* MICAH CHALLENGE GERMANY PLANS FOR THE G8 AND THE KIRCHENTAG

Micah Challenge (Micha-Initiative) will be hosting Jim Wallis at two events during the Kirchentag Festival from 6-10 June in Cologne . This annual gathering of churches will take place at the same time as the G8 meeting in Rostock and is likely to attract up to 200,000 people.

Here is a short overview of plans so far.

* June 7th at the Kirchentag: Evening with Jim Wallis and gospel singer, Judy Bailey
* June 8th and 9th at the Kirchentag: Morning talks by Jim Wallis
* Street Theater events with youth, in partnership with the Millennium Campaign, before the Kirchentag/ G8 and at the Kirchentag itself and close to the G8.
* A Prayer chain on the weekend before the G8 in Rostock in parallel with the other big rallies taking place there; and a gathering of 250 youth who will pray around the clock (24/7 style).

Micah Challenge hopes to link with Micah Challenge in the Netherlands, France, UK and Switzerland .

Daniel Rempe, a student and recently appointed part-time coordinator for Micha-Initiative, will also begin to represent Micah Challenge on GCAP’s International Mobilisation Group.

* MALAWI PLANS TO INVOLVE ITS TOP FOOTBALL TEAMS IN MARKING \'HALFTIME!\'

Micah Challenge has invited the country’s top six football teams to join in marking ‘Halftime!’ by playing against each other on July 7! Coordinator, Charles Gwengwe, is quietly confident that it could result in a positive response with the football Super League waiving the teams normal schedules. Messages about the MDGs would be given during the games’ halftime periods. It would create a lot of media coverage in Malawi and generate huge awareness of the Millennium Development Goals.

Building up to this, Micah Challenge plans to launch Blow the halftime Whistle! in May followed by a month of mobilisation in June. They plan to distribute a set of Micah Challenge notecards and the whistle wristbands nationally, aswell as organise ‘Gospel shows’ in major cities. The shows will include popular gospel singers, drama and comedy all aimed at raising awareness of the MDGS and the halftime moment.

* WHITE BAND WHISTLE LATEST

The latest prototype was completed on 17 Feb but our designer Rob Penner and his counterpart in Hong Kong both agree that there is still a need for further adjustment by the manufacturer before moving to the production stage. The next deadline for the prototype is March 23 in time for meetings with the Millennium Campaign.
