Micah Challenge Prayer, Dec. 22, 2006

January 2, 2007

Welcome and Merry Christmas!! We hope you will enjoy using these reflections with us!

We\'ll take a short Christmas break and send the next prayer email for Friday 5 January 2007.

Reflection

At Christmas we are celebrating the birth of the ‘Prince of Peace’ – but what does this mean in the Middle East or for the conflict in Darfur ?

Pam Wilson reflects on ‘peace’ and finds that the associations in the bible with the word are rarely gentle and soft but active and sometimes even violent!

Please reflect on Isaiah 9:6, John and Colossians -22.

The birth of the ‘Prince of Peace’ and the man on the cross cannot be separated: ‘he MADE peace…by means of Jesus’ blood on the cross’.

Prayer

Please pray:

§ That we can be peace makers through Jesus complete reconciliation of the world at the cross.

§ For areas of conflict over this Christmas period: in families, communities and in the world.

o Pray for Christians in those situations, that they may have words and deeds of peace.

§ For our world of massive inequality (see statistic below). May there be a message of peace in the wider sense of \'shalom\'.

Meditate on the Statistics

As you spend time in prayer and reflection, you may like to take a moment to silently understand with your heart the focus statistic we will include each week (see below). We are hoping that you will find this series of statistics a useful reference in preparing presentations.

Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability

Target 10: Halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation

\'Everyone should have at least 20 litres of clean water per day and the poor should get it for free…While a person in the UK or USA sends 50 litres down the drain each day by simply flushing their toilet, many poor people survive on less than five litres of contaminated water per day.\'
