Micah Challenge Prayer & Reflection, December 7, 2007

December 7, 2007

Thank you for sharing and praying with the worldwide Micah Challenge community. We hope this email is challenging, inspiring and spurs us on!

Reflection

This week we reflect on a song of lament and repentance by the well-known Christian songwriter Stuart Townend.

When looking at the state of our world what can we say other than \'Lord have mercy\'?

Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy
Have mercy on us all

O God forgive us for the wrong that we have done
The night is filled with weeping and we’re aching for the dawn
O God of love this world has suffered for so long
Have mercy on us all

We want to see the light we want to see the day
When hope is realised and hatred washed away
When justice rules the heart compassion leads the way
Have mercy on us all

In this Advent season we are reminded that Jesus came into this world as light and the ultimate hope for this world. Please reflect on and rejoice in the wonderful, partially-fulfilled prophecy in Isaiah 9: 1-7.

Prayer

Let us pray:

§ Lord, have mercy on us all! And thank you for coming into our world to bring hope.

§ Please pray for the early beginnings of Micah Challenge in Cambodia and especially Pastor Uon Seila who is facilitating the exploration stage. Please pray for him as he spreads the Micah Challenge vision in his country.

§ Reflecting on the statistic below: The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation.

We pray that this declaration can lead to increased awareness of lack of access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation and result in significant policy changes at key institutions.

Meditate on the Statistics

As you spend time in prayer and reflection, you may like to take a moment to silently understand with your heart the focus statistic we include each week (see below). Our hope is that you will find this series of statistics a useful resource in preparing presentations.

Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability

Target 10: Halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.

\'An estimated 42,000 people die every week from diseases related to low water quality and an absence of adequate sanitation.\'
