God has called us from all nations and all ages to be imitators of Jesus Christ, participators in God’s mission, and proclaimers and demonstrators of the Good News of the Kingdom of God. At the heart of community transformation is the local church – an integral part of the community embodying the values of the Kingdom, and responding to what God requires of us, namely to act justly, love compassion and walk humbly with God.
It is just over 10 years since Micah Network was established and the Micah Declaration on Integral Mission published. This document has had a global impact, especially amongst Christian leadership. In a Review of the Declaration in June 2011 the question was posed as to whether the foundational drive for integral mission has impacted communities at grass-roots level.
This global consultation, held from September 10th-14th in Thun, Switzerland, seeks to address this question through the lens of our founding verse from Micah 6:8 “What does the Lord require of us but to act justly, love mercy (compassion) and walk humbly with our God”.
Challenge: have we made a difference, has there been a grass-roots impact?
Context: are we being proactive, relevant and responsive?
Cooperation: are there increased synergies between stakeholders serving the poor and marginalised?
Compromise: have we influenced our world or vice versa?
Aim: to enable one another to adopt an incarnational approach in making known the Gospel of God’s saving grace through Jesus Christ; to learn from one another best practice in demonstrating God’s love in compassionate care for the needy; to join together in striving for justice and peace and in caring for His creation.
Who Should Attend?
Micah Network seeks to create a platform for Christians to meet, share and consult one another on relevant global and contextual issues and concerns, through the lens of integral mission. This global consultation is important and relevant for all those involved in holistic transformation through relief, rehabilitation, development, environmental care and justice ministries. All topics will include:
• Theological perspectives (the why)
• Good practice guidance (the how)
• Learning (shared experiences of practice and theological reflection)
